# Night City for Shadowrunners

*You've worked for the corps and walked away from jobs that went bad. That helps. Night City still runs on its own rules, and this page covers the ones that differ.*

## The world

**It's 2045, the Time of the Red.** Night City sits on the coast of Northern California, scarred and stubborn. The 4th Corporate War wrecked trade and infrastructure, and in 2023 a nuke flattened the old corporate center. The city is rebuilding around the ruins, which locals call the **Hot Zone**.

People still go to work, fight with landlords, fall in love and go dancing. They do it with broken roads, expensive necessities and neighbors who often show up faster than the cops.

**There's no magic and no metahumans.** Everyone is human. Your edge comes from skill, contacts and the chrome in your body.

## Making a living

You're **edgerunners**, freelancers who take risky work at the edges of society. One week that's a corporate job. The next it's guarding a local business, finding someone who went missing, or helping the block hold together.

Money is **eurobucks**, written **eb** and called **eddies** on the street. A Fixer finds you work and sources gear. Having the eb doesn't mean the gear is in stock, because supply is still a mess after the war. **Night Markets** bring buyers and sellers together, and Nomad families haul most of the cargo between cities.

Rent, food, ammo and medical care add up quickly. Cheap meals usually mean **Kibble**, a mass-produced food product. A good job pays next month's rent. A great one pays for the cyberarm.

## Shadowrun → Night City, roughly

| You know it as | Closest thing here |
|---|---|
| Shadowrunner | Edgerunner |
| Street samurai | Solo |
| Decker | Netrunner |
| Fixer | Fixer, who also sources gear and trades |
| Nuyen | Eurobucks, "eb", or "eddies" on the street |
| Commlink | Agent, an AI-assisted smartphone |
| DocWagon | Trauma Team, for covered clients |
| Lone Star | NCPD, or a district's private security |
| Essence | Humanity (see below) |
| Soy rations | Kibble |

These are loose matches. Each one works a little differently here.

## Your Solo

A Solo is a combat professional: bodyguard, soldier, merc or assassin. The name doesn't mean you work alone. Your Role Ability, **Combat Awareness**, lets you spread points across things like spotting an ambush, acting first in a fight or landing a precise shot.

An ex-corporate assassin knows how security is built and how professionals kill. Work out which old contacts still answer your calls and what they'd want in return. If your former employer still helps you, there should be a reason.

Your skills, friendships and choices matter outside a fight too.

## Your Netrunner

The DataKrash destroyed the old global NET. People still message and browse on their **Agents**, AI-assisted smartphones, through the city's **CitiNet**.

A Netrunner works inside a **NET Architecture**, a local system that holds files and can control a building's connected security. You need to be within **6 m/yds of an access point** to jack in and stay connected, and walls block the signal. Virtuality goggles let you see cyberspace and the room around you at once. Not every gadget in a building is on the Architecture, so you can't hack everything in sight.

You go in with the crew. While you work on the cameras, the Solo keeps people off your back.

## Chrome and consequences

Cyberware usually costs **Humanity**, which wears down your Empathy. Lose enough and you risk cyberpsychosis. Some implants, such as medical-grade replacements, cost none. Trauma can cost Humanity too, and therapy can win some back, up to your current maximum.

Gunfights leave injuries that last and bills that follow. Use cover, know your way out, and have a plan for medical care. **Trauma Team** sends armed medical extraction to clients who pay for coverage. It's the closest thing here to DocWagon.

## Home: Little Europe

Your crew lives in Little Europe: old brick, corporate towers, small businesses and working people. The Hot Zone lies to the east. NCPD patrols the streets and likes to stop people and search them, so think before you walk around with a big gun on show.

Your character has lived here for years. When something comes up, ask the GM what they'd know. You don't need to memorize the city first.

## A few useful words
*choomba* means friend. *Eddies* are eurobucks. A *corpo* is a corporate type. *Chrome* is cyberware.

## Rules questions
Between scenes, ask **DataTerm** on IRC. It answers from the Cyberpunk RED books and gives the page.
