Delivering espresso to the monitoring station i noticed the absence.
Personality. Warmth. Life. 
How long can a body live in stasis? Instant coffee and cold metal chairs? Away from the rush and slow of life, measuring time by a beep or whir of machines.
Not a judgement, might be easy to forget. Or become numb.
The flicker of blue light, the smell of burning metal, the bland air.
Not much to disrupt? 

The mine lays beyond sight even from this vantage. 

Too few people to carry the load. But people might also attract notice.
