Journal Guide
Write solo roleplaying game journals and stories from your character's point of view. Each writer has a private link to their journal. There's no account or password: the link is your key.
Getting Started
Go to Start a journal and enter your author name. The name is shown on your entries and cannot be changed later.
You get a link that looks like this:
https://deadkeys.net/jrnl/journal/view/four-words-like-this
Save that link somewhere safe and keep it private. It is the only way back to your journal, and the site cannot recover it. Anyone who has it can manage your entries.
Your First Entry Waits for Approval
A new author's entries stay private until an admin approves the author once. Until then, your journal page marks them Awaiting approval. After that first approval, everything you write appears in the public feed straight away.
Writing Entries
- Open your link.
- Click New entry.
- Enter a title, choose the game, and write your entry in Markdown: plain text with simple formatting such as
**bold**and*italics*. - Click Preview to check how it looks.
- Click Save entry.
Uploading Files
If you prefer writing in your own text editor, save your entry as a Markdown (.md) file with # Your Title on the first line. On the new entry page, use Upload Markdown and Upload to prefill: the form fills in from the file, and you review it and click Save entry. Uploading never publishes on its own.
Editing and Deleting
Use Edit and Delete beside each entry on your journal page. Delete asks you to confirm. A deleted entry disappears from the site, but the admin keeps a backup copy.
Sharing
Your journal page links to your Public author page. Share that address with readers: it does not contain your private link.
Downloading Your Work
Each entry has two downloads:
- Download: Markdown with frontmatter, a block of information about the entry at the start of the file
- Download clean: plain Markdown with
# Titleat the top
Download all and Download all (clean) give you a zip file with every entry.
The Public Feed
Published entries appear on the Journal Feed, where readers can filter by game or author. Subscribe to the Atom feed in a feed reader, an app that collects new entries for you.
For Admins
The admin journal page lists pending authors (Approve or Remove), approved authors (Revoke: their entries stay public), Issue a link for a player who asks (issued links are approved from the start), unowned entries, anything that needs attention, and Delete for any entry. Nothing is erased: removed and deleted entries go to a backup folder.
Cyberpunk RED Character Journals
Approved Cyberpunk characters write from the Journal button on their sheet, using their sheet link. Entries appear on the public journal. No separate approval is needed.
