FIELD LOG: STATION ALPHA
Date: 2026-03-27
Author: Voss
Classification: Internal / Warder
Subject: Post-mission debrief - Kalipeda (Cliath, Ahroun, Black Fury)
1. Context
Kalipeda reported to the monitoring station six days post-mission for informal debrief. She carried physical samples and photographic documentation from the mine approach and interior. No prior debrief had been conducted by John or Samira. This is noted without commentary.
2. Samples Received
- Glass bottle containing black tar-like substance collected from an affected tree near the mine approach. Viscosity is inconsistent with any natural resin. Substance clings to glass and does not respond normally to gravity. Requires lab analysis.
- Wax-paper-wrapped knife used for sample collection. Retained for residue examination.
- Phone containing photographic documentation of the approach, staging area, and mine mouth.
3. Tactical Intelligence: Approach
Kalipeda reported the following observations on the drainage channel approach to the mine:
- Amber or sap-like bubble observed on vegetation near the mine, with visible movement inside. Kalipeda did not make contact. Good judgment.
- A low-frequency metallic moan, omnidirectional, resonant, detected upon entering the blighted zone. The sound appeared responsive to presence and ceased when attention was directed toward it. Frequency profile suggests something below the audible threshold for most humans. Worth cross-referencing against the LoRaWAN vibration data if any nodes were active in that quadrant.
- Human equipment staged at the mine mouth: truck, crates, wires, hand-mining tools. Corporate logo visible on crates. No workers present. Equipment appeared delivered but never unpacked. This is consistent with the new ownership filing but raises questions about why a work crew was dispatched and then apparently recalled or abandoned.
4. Tactical Intelligence: Mine Interior
- Ground became adhesive and warm approximately ten paces inside the entrance.
- Structural timbers showed deformation from machined lumber to organic curvature. This is not weathering. The wood is changing shape.
- Temperature fluctuated between cold and humid with no consistent gradient.
- Light attenuation exceeded what depth alone would explain. Physical capability was reduced. Kalipeda described oppressive air and a building sense of being waited for.
- Four shade-banes engaged the ground team. Not human or animal in origin. Animated material, consistent with Simon's earlier report of the muck spirit. Simon bit one in half. Hettar clawed one. Kalipeda engaged one directly and sustained minor searing contact. The fourth was likely handled by Notch.
- Both Simon and Notch got bane material in their mouths during the engagement. Cleansing rite was administered afterward. Notch responded well. Simon's status unconfirmed at time of this log.
5. Debrief Observations
Kalipeda was directed to Samira for taint screening after the initial debrief.
Regarding the debrief itself: the first twenty minutes were clinical and yielded useful but incomplete data. When the conversation shifted to less structured exchange, the quality of information improved significantly. Kalipeda communicates tactical detail more effectively in conversation than under direct questioning. This is noted for future reference.
6. Station Note
Kalipeda has been approved for unscheduled access to the monitoring station. A dedicated 20-amp circuit has been identified for a coffee machine she has volunteered to source.
