Luca Voss

Overview
Silent-Wings does not guard the caern with claws or fury. He guards it with attention.
Before his First Change, Luca Voss was already fighting the Wyrm without knowing its name. A conservation ecologist and quiet hacktivist, he built open-source sensor networks for communities near industrial sites, scraped corporate environmental compliance data, and gave a forgettable talk at a small Defcon village about using mesh networks to catch illegal dumping in watershed areas. Nobody remembered his face. They remembered the sensor design.
He found the Garou when a mycelium mat in a research plot above treeline pulsed with something his instruments couldn't name. He followed the signal at dusk and the wolf came out of him like an electrical discharge. The Glass Walkers found him three days later in a collapsed tent, surrounded by shredded data printouts. They recognized what he was: someone who already spoke the Weaver's language and the Wyld's without knowing either had a name.
Appearance
In Homid form, Luca is the kind of man you'd pass on a trail and remember the backpack before you remembered the face. Mid-thirties, lean, dark hair kept short and practical. Grey-green eyes that stay level and still. His hands are the most notable thing about him: calloused, precise, always slightly dirty at the nails, with a pale burn scar across the left. Muted layers, worn boots, a watch with more functions than style.
In Lupus, he is a grey-brown wolf of medium build, unremarkable except for eyes that track everything with the patience of something that has been watching for a very long time. In Crinos, he is compact and economical rather than imposing, grey-brown fur dense and practical. His eyes stay the same steady grey-green, which is somehow worse than if they changed.
Tribe & Auspice
Tribe: Glass Walker
Auspice: Philodox
Most Glass Walkers come from boardrooms and server farms. Luca came from the place where data meets dirt. His Philodox nature did not emerge as courtroom rhetoric. It emerged as an engineer's understanding that every design decision is a judgment about what matters, and every boundary drawn is a ruling about what belongs on either side.
Role within the Caern
As Warder, Silent-Wings is responsible for:
- All detection, surveillance, and perimeter security bridging Weaver technology and Wyld spirit awareness
- Maintaining the four-layer sensor network: mycelium substrate, LoRaWAN environmental mesh, WiFi HaLow cameras, and ornithopter drones
- Enforcing the boundary between infrastructure and sacred ground
- Translating spirit impressions into data the alpha can act on, and translating data into assessments the Theurges can verify
He drew the line where cables end and the Wyld core begins. He enforces it on everyone, including himself. His multi-tool crosses the line. His laptop does not.
Personality
- Measured, precise, and quietly certain
- Speaks in data and lets truth do the work
- Treats every infrastructure decision as a Philodox ruling
- Patient with systems, less so with those who mistake the Weaver's tools for the Weaver's purpose
Luca believes that order exists to protect the sacred, not replace it. He has no interest in dominance, ideology, or politics. He has interest in whether the readings are normal and whether the perimeter is secure. When the readings are not normal, he says so in measured terms, and he is always right.
When frustrated, he gets quieter and more precise. This is worse than shouting.
Names Won in Deed
Counts-the-Wires
"When he first came among us, we did not know what to make of him.
He did not howl. He did not hunt. He did not posture.
He counted things.
Wires. Cables. Signal paths. The distance between sensor nodes.
He walked the bawn with instruments instead of instinct
and wrote numbers in a notebook while the rest of us watched the tree line.
We called him Counts-the-Wires because that was all we saw.
We were not looking carefully enough."
Root-and-Wire
"The Theurges felt nothing.
The mycelium felt everything.
He had built something none of us understood:
a way to read the earth's own network through the Weaver's instruments.
Root and wire, carrying the same signal in different languages.
Twelve hours before the spirits stirred,
his screens showed the pattern.
Twelve hours before the Theurges warned us,
he had already drawn the map.
So we name him Root-and-Wire,
for he proved that the Weaver's eye and the Wyld's voice
can speak the same warning,
if someone knows how to listen to both."
Silent-Wings
"When the old Warder fell and the bawn went blind,
he walked the perimeter for three days without speaking.
Then he built us eyes.
They fly without sound.
They see without being seen.
They wear Owl's shape because he understood
that the caern's guardians should look like the caern's totem.
Owl watched him work.
Owl saw what he made.
Owl approved.
So we name him Silent-Wings,
for his eyes fly quiet through the canopy
and the caern sees further than it ever has."
"The readings are not normal."
That is how he says everything is about to go wrong.
